His Name:

The Master of the Martyrs, Hamza Ben Abdul Muttalib Ben Hashem (as).He is the uncle of the Prophet and his brother in suckling. The Prophet titled him as The Lion of Allah. His Birth: Hamza (as) was born 2 years before the birth of the Prophet (The year of Elephant)

His Islam:

He entered Islam in the 2nd year after the revelation and he was one of those who  Allah has strengthened the Islam with them. His service to the religion: he was protecting the Prophet from the harming of Quraish. He mi-grated with the Prophet to Medina. He fought hardly for the Prophet of Allah in the Battle of Badr and killed 7 of the bravest men in Quraish.

His Martyrdom:

Hamza participated in the Battle of Ohod (15th of Shawal at the 3rd year A,H.) to a very great degree. Hind Bent Otbah (Abu Sufian's wife, Muawiah's mother and Yazeed's grand mother) sent to Wahshi Ben Harb before the Battle of Ohod and promised him  with a lot of money and wealth if he killed Hamza (as). She did that to take the revenge of her father and brother that were killed in Badr. Wahshi was famous in targeting. He has said that when he was in Ohod: "I was looking at Hamza while he was fighting the people with his sword. I swear that I saw him killing anything that passed beside him. So I circled my bow and threw it on him. It hit him on the bottom part of his stomach and he fell dead. Then I left the battle field." When Hind heard that Hamza (as) has been killed, she came to his body and cut out his liver then she bit it and tried to swallow it but she could not so she spat  it out. She and the women with her started cutting the noses and ears off the companions of the prophet (saw) and made them into necklaces and rings. Hind gave all of her jewellery to Wahshi and she used the body parts as her jewellery. Then she went on top of a hill and read a poem with her loudest   voice.  When the Prophet saw what has happened to his uncle Hamza (as), He (saww) cried and then said: "I will never have a disaster like yours. I have never stood in a situation  that made me sad more than this one." Then he ordered him to be buried.

His martyrdom was on the 3rd year after Hijrah. The Prophet (saww) paid his condolences by these sad words: “o’ the uncle of the Prophet of Allah, o’ the lion of Allah, o’ the lion of the Prophet of Allah, o’ Hamza, o’ the person who always does the good deeds, o’ Hamza, o’ solver of problems, o’ Hamza, o’ the protector of the Prophet of Allah"

When the Prophet (saww) returned back to Medina, he passed by a house of Ansar. He heard the crying and sorrow for their own people (and not Hamza (as)). His eyes filled with tears and he cried.  Then he said: “but Hamza does not have someone to cry for him” When the Ansar heard that, they told their women to cry for Hamza for the sake of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his household).
